Denim, leather, faux fur, plaid, lace – I can’t wait for winter! Not something you would hear very often from me as I generally I find winter fashion really boring. (I always feel larger than life in all the layers I have to wear in order to keep warm.) However, seeing Woolworths’ fashion preview for winter has quickly changed my mind on this.
Arriving at the Turbine Hall in Newtown on 9 April, I had no idea what Woolworths had in store for us at their Style By Night event. I received my wristband, was greeted by a lively host on the “red” carpet (he was perfect for that role) and very quickly got to experience what celebs are greeted with at every event – a multitude of camera flashes and photographers!
My friend Louise was my plus 1 for the evening and we met up with my other friend Vanessa who was also attending. We walked inside and were welcomed with glasses of champagne – cheers to an awesome girls’ night out. Great music, images projected on walls, a selection of tasty bites and some very trendy people surrounded us – the vibe was just perfect! I posted a video on Instagram to give you a taste of what it was like.
If you searched for #stylebynight that evening your timeline would have been flooded with images (probably mostly selfies) and tweets about Woolies’ fashion event. That night many people posted selfies to Instagram with that particular hashtag in the hopes of winning a trip to New York. Most people seemed to congregate to the main wall that had a live feed of the Instagram selfies people had posted. It was such a great concept and I must admit it was pretty cool to see my selfie up there. Another fun concept was the selfie sign on the mirror – no one could resist taking one. There was also one on the floor for a shoe selfie.
A little later in the evening the curtains opened and everyone made their way to their seats in eager anticipation of the fashion show. For those of you who don’t know yet, Woolworths now stocks Australian fashion brands Witchery and Mimco in South Africa. I couldn’t wait to see what would be arriving in stores for winter!
We were lucky enough to get seats at the end of the ramp and had a great view of the clothes. Here are some of my favourites:
And my top brand of the night was Mimco! These models looked amazing with the accessories and they looked just like mannequins when they first came out.
When the fashion show ended we mingled and enjoyed the music of some of SA’s favourite DJs. It was such a great night out and I am so glad I went. I would never have survived the FOMO if I hadn’t!
After watching the fashion show I was happy to see that my leather-feel skirt (from Woolworths) and plaid shirt were definitely spot on for the winter trend.
Thanks Woolworths for a fun evening!
